Is mineral makeup right for you?

As far as beauty products go it seems like “mineral makeup” is a product that every makeup brand is getting its feet wet with these days.  Although this product seems like the new guy on the street its actually been around for years.  Cosmetic companies first started to come out with mineral makeup lines in the late 70’s, but unfortunately they didn’t catch on and most dismissed them as a fad that never really made it in the mainstream market.   For the past few years though mineral makeup has become the must have beauty product, making the list of Allure’s best products and coveted by celebrities everywhere!

Not only is mineral makeup a much quicker, easier form of makeup to apply but it is also good for your skin!  The minerals themselves, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide mixed with pure pigment offer many skin care benefits that traditional foundations just don’t. Titanium and zinc are natural anti-inflammatories, so they calm and soothe the skin; titanium dioxide is a natural sunscreen and carries an SPF of 15 to 20; and the minerals won’t support bacteria growth like standard makeup, because the minerals are inert.  Best of all mineral makeup won’t clog your pores!

According to mineral makeup companies Jane Iredale and Pure + Simple Cosmetics, mineral makeup is pure, lacking talc and other fillers.  It also allows the skin to breathe and is a natural sun protector.  Mineral makeup can also relieve skin problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

Personally I use Bare Escentuals mineral makeup, I’ve used it for about three years now and have never even thought about switching back to my regular liquid foundation.  I find my makeup routine so much easier now, it literally takes 30 seconds to swirl the foundation on and your done!  I also have many allergies and can’t wear regular eye shadows, I find after a couple hours my eyes would get itchy and red but Bare Escentuals eye shadow works great and never irritates my eyes.

Since I’ve started using mineral makeup I’ve had so many people compliment me on my skin and so many of them have switched because of my recommendation.  My suggestion is to go to Sephora and get one of their makeup consultants to show you how to use the product and what color would work best for your skin tone.
